Sea Holly
Eryngium planum
Perennial flowers grow 2 -3 feet tall and 1 -2 feet wide. They produce a clump of leaves at the base and tall stems are topped with blue flowers with a silver hue that resemble thistles. Sea holly begins blooming in late summer and continues until frost. Blooms are stunning in bouquets and can be dried with ease.
Growing Information
Seeds can take 5 to 90 days to germinate. Be patient.
Direct sow in fall or stratify for at least four weeks prior to sowing in spring. Requires light to germinate, do not cover. Tap roots do not like to be disturbed so take care if transplanting. Transplant when small, and ensure you remove the whole root. The plant will sulk after moving but will perk up eventually.
